A spectacular snowy start to the day
This morning we awoke to this gorgeous scene in our garden.......the snow has arrived!  For Hope, our little red-legged partridge hatched in summer, it is her first experience of snow lying but she sheltered in a dry spot in our fruit cage in the garden and is happily scratching around and eating this morning.

One rescued hedgehog = two rescued kittens......!
In my previous post I told of taking to a rescue centre a baby hedgehog we rescued, but the happy story does not end there. Whilst at Munlochy Animal Aid I mentioned to Iona who runs the sanctury that in August we had had to say goodbye for the last time to Amber, our gorgeous 19 year old cat. Our first hedgehog rescue of 2015
We found this little hedgehog, our first Autumn Juvenile of the year, on our drive at The Dulaig last night. It looks in good condition but weighing only 400 grams it is highly unlikely to be able to put on enough weight to enable it to reach 750 grams before it hibernates for winter here in the Scottish Highlands.  We kept it indoors overnight, fed it on catfood which it loved, and today took it for overwintering to Munlochy Animal Rescue about 60 miles away.  We are lucky t...

We had a lovely visit recently to Ballindalloch Distillery, just 16 miles from The Dulaig. Scotland's first Single Estate Distillery, Ballindalloch is built in the restored ruins of an old farm steading on the Ballindalloch Estate. The craftsmanship is obvious both in the distilling and in the restoration of the buildings - just look at this lovely old lock on the restored spirit safe.  Although it will be some years before the whisky will be ready to drink you can book an appointment a...

An "easy" walk on Skye???? I don't think so!
Gordon and I spent a wonderful few days on the Isle of Skye, staying with Marie and Ian at The Spoons B&B. The weather was lovely and we decided to go for a "little" walk on three hills near Broadford known as the Broadford Red Hills. This is me on the first of the three, Beinn na Caillich with the ridge to the second, Beinn Dearg Mhor, straight ahead and Blaven and the Cuillins behind. There is a good description of the walk on Walk Highlands , including mention of th...
