Besty and Michael Tuemmel from Munich, Germany spent part of their honeymoon at The Dulaig and it was lovely to have them return to stay with us for week in December 2010 to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. It was also a “special” birthday for Michael, and as a surprise Betsy adopted for him Gnu, pictured right, a young reindeer from The Cairngorms Reindeer Centre (www.cairngormreindeer.co.uk) .

Michael was delighted, and during their stay he and Betsy braved the deep snow to visit Gnu a number of times. At the end of their holiday they returned to Munich, not expecting to see or hear about Gnu for a while but they had a big surprise when their “boy” made headlines in the UK national TV news and the newspapers! 

Gnu and a number of his fellow reindeer were attending a Christmas event in Sunderland when he was scared by a dog, jumped the fence of his enclosure and spent twenty minutes running loose in the town. The good news is that he was safely recaptured and is now back home, none the worse for his experience…….we are not sure about the pre-Christmas revellers who saw Gnu and thought Santa might be delivering early!!!
